Get the help you need to combine school and training in Queensland. Find out about VET in Schools, apprenticeships and other ways to start building your career before you leave high school.

For answers to general questions about training, see Get help and support.

If you’re a school student, you can do training through VET in Schools (VETiS).

Doing training while you’re still at school helps you to build useful skills that could lead to a job after school. With Career Tasters, you can try out different areas to help you make decisions about your school subjects or training options in the future.

You can:

  • get some experience in a high-demand area through the Gateway to Industry Schools program (from Year 7)
  • try out different jobs with the Career Tasters pilot program (Year 10)
  • learn foundational skills by completing a Certificate I or II qualification (from Year 10)
  • work as an apprentice or trainee while you’re still in high school (from Year 10) through school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.

These programs are free or low cost for eligible students.

You can explore options on this website, but the best way to get started with training is to ask your school for help. Your school’s VET coordinator or guidance counsellor can help you explore your options and plan your future.

You can also find helpful information about careers and study on the myfuture website.

If you're in Year 10, 11 or 12, you can kick off your future career with a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.

You can explore options on this website, but the best way to get started with an apprenticeship or traineeship is to ask your school for help.

From Year 7 you can participate in the Gateway to Industry Schools program. You can try out different areas to help you decide if you'd like to study or train in these areas in the future.
