My name is Jacob. I came to Australia in 2005. Basically came here for school and education and a better life. What stood out for me was the opportunities that were here. Honestly, there was more things to do. There was more things to attend to. There was a lot of school opportunities.

So, I initially first heard about apprenticeships at school. It was my home ec teacher. He seen that I was very like good with my hands and suggested that instead of going to university, maybe try some doing something with my hands and whatnot. So, I ended up being a a roof plumber.

Having done the apprenticeship, the skills that I did learn from there, honestly, they've shaped me majorly with my communication skills, my people skills, a lot more patient.

It's taught me a lot of life skills and I'm very, very grateful I did it.

At the start, I don't think a lot of people seen that it was something that was educational, more something that can be done. And now that they see me in my job and whatnot, Mum is a lot more happier.

In the next couple years, I'm hoping it it lights up and becomes something that younger people look at and want to become something.

You don't know that you can do something until you actually try it. And the best thing that I was ever taught honestly was don't stick around if you don't like it. There's so many different trades out there. There's so many different fields and so many different things that you can do. Find something you like and stick to it and it'll pay off.
