Any advice I can give to anyone wanting to get into any sort of industry, if you're unsure, you just want to try it, just go for it.

I'm Sam, and I am the Welding Supervisor at Blask Engineering. I love making things, putting steel together, seeing it come to fruition. Driving past projects I've previously worked on is unbelievable.

As a welding supervisor, I oversee all the compliance with welding procedures. So I do a visual inspection and check for visual defects and to make sure that welds are to the correct size and everything looks nice.

I never, ever in my career as a boilermaker pictured being a welding supervisor. I'm a Cert III qualified boilermaker. I’m a Australian Standard 2214, qualified welding supervisor, and I've just recently finished my Cert IV in Boilermaking, which is my advanced trade.

I saw gap in the business that needed to be filled, and I had the skill set to be able to fill that gap. That's when I started doing weld supervision. The more I studied, the more I loved it. I've just enjoyed every step of the process.

I've got so much more space in my brain for more knowledge in this industry. I just want to get as much knowledge as I can. I've already lined up my next three courses. I just don't know which order I'm going to do them in yet.

I took the leap and it is the best thing I've ever done. It's definitely the place I need to be,

and I would never have  gotten here if I didn't leap.

Could manufacturing and engineering be for you?
